일본의 민요 전승 상황을 통해서 본 진도아리랑의 과제

어떤 민요든 지역의 다양한 사회적 맥락을 배경으로 하여 지역의 음악 전통을 구성하게 된다. 전국적으로 널리 알려진 것만이 중시되다보니 일상의 생활과 결부된 보다 토착적인 노래는 경시되는 경향이 있다. 따라서 진도아리랑을 비롯한 진도의 민요가 어떤 경로를 통해 현재와 같은 모습에 이른 것인지를 실증적으로 밝힐 필요가 있다. 지금까지 한국의 상황을 보면 문화의 내셔널 브랜드화가 중앙의 국가적 관점에서 추진되는 경향이 있다. 내셔널 브랜드는 민간의 문화전통에 국가적인 정통성을 부여하는 것으로, 국민통합에 기여해 온 것은 명백하다. 그러나 국가에 의한 국민 통합에 그치지 않고, 좀 더 지역과 지역주민의 주체성과 관점을 반영하여 지방·지역의 활성화를 도모하는 것에도 역점을 두는 것이 좋지 않을까 생각한다. 민요의 담당자인 “민(民)”은, 결코 국가주의 차원으로만 설명할 수는 없다. 호남(湖南), 남도(南道), 진도 내부에 있어서도 민요 본연의 양태는 현지에 사는 주민들의 손에 맡길 수밖에 없을 것이다. 즉 지방·지역사회의 복합적인 상황을 근거로 음악전통을 마련해 가는 것이 앞으로의 과제라고 하겠다. 최근에 일본에서 이루어지고 있는 지역주의 담론과 민요를 둘러싼 주민의 경험은, 진도에 있어서도 시사점이 있다고 본다.
Abstract
Minyo-fork song- of every region is being created by local musical traditions based on various social context of respective region. But, those indigenous songs related to ordinary living tend to be treated lightly due to the tendency to be paid attention only for those songs popular nationwide. Therefore an empirical clarification is necessary through which route the Jindo folk songs including Jindo Arirang have transformed into current shape. Upon examining the situation of Korea until today, thenational brand making f culture indicated a trend to have been processed from the perspective of central gov’t. National brand making is an act vesting a national legitimacy to a private cultural tradition and it is a clear fact that the unity of nation has been rewarded from it. However, it appears to be wise to put emphasis on the local / regional activation reflecting more subjectivity and perspective of region / local people in addition to the unity of nation. The people(民) as being the practical subject of minyo cannot be regarded only from the dimension of nationalism. The fundamental nature of minyo cannot but left to the hands of local people notwithstanding within Honam(湖南), Namdo(南道), Jindo areas. In other word, the future task is to create musical traditions on the basis of complex situation of local, regional society . The recent discussion of localism as well as experiences of local people over minyo in Japan can be an implication as for Jindo.
