유치환 시에서 ‘자연’은 핵심적인 주제이다. 본고는 유치환 시의 자연과 자아를 세 차원에서 고찰한다. 원시적 자연은 투쟁하는 자아와 맞물린다. 여기에는 사회진화론의 영향이 나타난다. 이는 친일의 사상적 배경으로 추정된다. 허무의 자연은 사유하는 자아에 대응한다. 시적 자아는 자연과 자아의 ‘허무’에 대해 사유하며 무신론적인 면모를 보여준다. 신성한 자연은 사랑하는 자아에 연결된다. 시적 자아는 신성한 자연에서 사랑을 느끼며 범신론적인 상상력을 전개한다. 유치환 시에는 다양한 양상의 자연과 자아가 나타나며, 이는 유치환 시의 핵심적인 주제와 맞닿아 있다. 유치환의 친일 행적에 대한 보다 날카로운 연구와 비판도 필요하지만, 그의 문학적 성과에 대한 공정하고 심화된 평가도 요구된다.
Abstract
In the poetry of Yoo Chi-hwan, ‘nature’ is a key theme. This paper examines nature and the self in three dimensions. Primitive nature meshes with the struggling self. Here, the influence of the theory of social evolution appears. This is presumed to be the ideological background of the pro-Japanese. Nature of nihil corresponds to the thinking self. The poetic self thinks about the ‘nihil’ of nature and the self and shows an atheistic aspect. The divine nature is connected to the loving self. The poetic self feels love in the divine nature and develops a pantheistic imagination. In Yoo Chi-hwan’s poetry, various aspects of nature and self appear, which are in contact with the core theme. A sharper study and criticism of Yoo’s pro-Japanese activities are also needed, but a fair and in-depth evaluation of his literary achievements is also required.
