Ochanomizu University is the only national university, which has dance major from the undergraduate to the graduate Ph.D. program, in Japan. I have been interested in dance science for twenty years since I was used to be a professional ballet dancer. Forthese ten years after I became the only scientific academic staff of the department of dance and dance education in Ochanomizu University, our laboratory for exercise science members have been doing the scientific research projects related to scientific aspects of dancers and dance movements. Our research projects can be mainly divided into three topics; the first is the physiological/physical characteristic of Japanese female dancers. The second is biomechanical characteristics of dance movements, which is mainly related to enhancement of the skill in dance movements. The third is for determining the risk factors of dance injury both physiologically and biomechanically. So, in this paper, I would like to summarize the results of our research projects for these ten years in Ochanomizu Universityrelated to the physical, physiological and biomechanical aspects of dancers and dance movements by Japanese dancers.
