신수사학과 다양성- 카임 페를만의 ‘연역 체계와 증명’에 대한 비판을 중심으로 -

지금까지 우리는 ‘신수사학과 다양성’이라는 주제를 두고 논의해 왔다. 필자의 주장을 거칠게 표현하자면 ‘연역 체계와 증명의 딱딱함에서부터 신수사학이 갖고 있는 부드러움, 즉 다양성으로 전환‘이라고 말할 수 있다. 이러한 주장을 공고히 하기 위해서 페를만이 바라본 연역 체계와 증명의 문제점, 즉 형식화, 고립화, 그리고 계산화가 바로 ‘딱딱함’이 갖고 있는 문제점이라고 간주하면서, 특히 형식화라는 문제점에 치중하여 본고를 작성하였다. 이와 함께 그 형식화의 문제점을 두 개의 논점으로 분리하여 전개했는데, 하나는 ‘일의성’에 대한 비판이고, 다른 하나는 ‘사물과 사람’에 대한 논의였다. 그렇다면 철학은 오늘날 어디에 위치해야만 하는가? 필자가 보기에 당연히 이제는 딱딱한 장소에서 부드러운 장소로 자리를 옮겨서 철학이 논의되어야 한다고 생각한다. 여기서 부드러운 장소란 어떤 의미를 함축하는가? 이것을 위해서 신수사학의 두 가지의 특징에서부터 도움을 받을 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 왜냐하면 신수사학이 추구하는 방향은 하나는 형이상학이 지칭하는 참된 세계의 ‘딱딱한’ 실재를 버리라는 것이고, 나머지 하나는 실재를 버린 그 세계에서 이제는 인간이 사용하는 언어에 의해서 파생되는 ‘부드러운’ 실천을 하라는 것으로 집약되기 때문이다. 사실 이 말은 추상적인 표현이기에 좀처럼 실감나지 않는다. 그러나 이것을 아래와 같이 말하면 더욱 실감날 것이다. 즉 우리가 알고 있는 ‘형식적, 수학적 언어(formal, mathematized language)’가 특권적 위상을 얻으면서, 나아가 그 권한을 ‘신성한(holy)’ 것으로 선정하고 그런 연후에 ‘일상 언어’의 ‘생활세계(Lebenswelt)’를 밀어냄으로써 모든 것을 도구화 시킨 사회, 즉 ‘전문가 정치조직(Expertocracy)’이 우리를 지배하고 있는데, 이러한 상황에서 계속 ‘전문가 정치조직’으로부터 지배를 받기보다는 인간이 주체가 되는 사회를 만들자고 말이다. 또한 이렇게 함으로써 우리는 계획과 행정이 지배하는 ‘기술사회’로부터 벗어나서 ‘자유로움’과 ‘부드러움’이 지배하는 사회, 즉 인간이 갖고 있는 본연의 ‘자유로움’과 ‘부드러움’이 스스로 발현되는 ‘시민자치 통치사회(the self-rule of citizens)’를 만들 수 있을 것이라고 말이다. 그래서 이러한 시민들을 양성하기 위해서 우리는 수사학을 통한 인간 공동체를 통한 ‘동의’를 받아들여만 하고, 또한 시민들이 가져야만 하는 덕목으로 ‘선의지’를 배양하기 위해서 윤리적인 측면을 부각시켜야 할 것이라고 말이다. 길지만 이렇게 표현하면 훨씬 수사학에서 말하는 ‘부드러움’, 즉 ‘다양성’이 실감날 것이다.
Abstract
Overall, what New Rhetoric try to pursue is the term, 'Diversity'. This is the contrary term of the 'Univocity' with which the traditional occidental philosophy have been presented. The cause New Rhetoric can try to claim the 'Diversity' is because of the Sophist of Athens. Therefore, it seems that we should research the thought of Protagoras who is designated as one of the well-known Sophists. And, New Rhetoric is not about the discussion of the 'Res', but about the one of the 'Human'. So, New Rhetoric would want to reject the previous discussion of the 'Res', concurrently to concenter about the argument of the 'Human'. As above, I suggested that the New Rhetoric is largely the study of which it deal with the two terms, 'Diversity' and 'Human'. The scholar group that inaugurate the New Rhetoric is called 'Belgian school', and the most eminent scholar is 'Chaïm Perelman'. Thus, in my thesis, I will argue about the Perelman's argumentation of the 'Diversity' and 'Human', and especially about how he try to unfold the argument of 'Diversity' and 'Human'. At the same time, in order to be plentiful on arguing the two terms, I will plan to draw the four philosophers, that is to say Protagoras, Merleau-Pont, Nietzsche, and Thomas S. Kuhn. But, I think that even if the two terms linked to the New Rhetoric are argued by Perelman and the four philosophers in my thesis, the abstraction of the thesis having the thesis-itself wouldn't be overcome. So, to overcome the abstraction, I will try to write my thesis through the important word, 'hardness' and 'softness'. Because the hardness and the softness is the word feeling easily and routinely. Perhaps, the readers reading the thesis seems that they can easily understand the sense of hardness designating the deductive system and demonstration. Further more, I will expect that they perceive the hardness of the system deduction and the demonstration being originated from the 'Univocity'. It is the reason that I should try to draw up the thesis.
