Abstract
The learners in education have become more active participants. Due to this trend, current researchers have focused on learners’ strategies, which can be considered a major element for successful learning, instead of adjusting learners to fixed teaching variables. The emergence of the concept of learning strategies is needed to accomplish effective learning by consistently practicing those strategies which desirable learners use. This research is aimed at investigating if a meta-cognitive strategy in elementary school English learning significantly takes effect in students through the process of plan adjustment and self-assessment. Through this research, the use of meta-cognitive strategy in the process of teaching and learning allowed affirmative, affective influence on learners and made learners more interested. Moreover, it improved the learners’ self-direction and use of meta-cognitive strategy. These results showed that by providing diverse situations and contexts to learners, students could make use of many meta-cognitive aspects which lead them to become more successful learners.
