Abstract

This study attempted to discuss future directions by exploring the system of the operation and guidance method of ballet programs for infants and children in domestic ballet academies based on phenomenological principles. To this end, the study participants selected a total of 21 dance principals who currently operate ballet academies by convience sampling among the non-certainty sampling methods. In addition, the following results were derived as a result of analysis using the phenomenological analysis method of colaizzi (1978), one of the qualitative research methods. First, the ballet program operated by the study participants used the Vaganova method the most, and the program component of the ballet academy was three sub-themes: body in infancy, childhood, and growth and development, education was classified into two sub-themes: difficulty, the Vaganova method, self-development, age, and environment was categorized into one sub-themes: school leaving time. Second, the characteristics according to the ballet academy's operating policy were categorized into two themes: self-education and instructor discretionary education. In addition, the factors to consider when hiring instructors at the academy were categorized into four themes: age, teaching experience, integrity, voice tone, and image. Third, the view for the educational development of the operation of ballet academies is categorized into three elements of specialization, Korean method, long-term development, and one sub-theme of physical growth and development, and two sub-themes of fixed program and program composition in the system. Fourth, the educational goals of ballet academies were categorized into three themes: body shape correction, interest, and ballet perception. Fifth, the appropriateness of tuition fees is a negative characteristic, and three sub-themes are categorized: labor cost limitation, difficulty in qualitative improvement, and cost-to-area limitation, and one sub-theme of improvement is categorized as a positive characteristic. The recent economic downturn and decrease in the school-age population are social problems that cannot be overlooked. Ballet is a pure art genre, but it is also a practical field that affects the physical development and emotions of growing children because it uses the body. Therefore, further research should be conducted on the topic of the necessity of re-establishing tuition fees according to the practical value of specialized ballet academies.
