초록
The masks, contextualized by symbolism and formativeness inherently, become widely acceptable tools applied to dance performances and theatricals in line with development of the show arts. There exist uncountable artiste masks in the world being typically exemplified by Korean Tal-chum, Chinese Na-Heui and Japanese Noh to represent the Oriental masks. The purpose of this study is laid to investigate the masks originated from those three nations as Korea, China and Japan that have intercultural similarities in the geographical vicinity. In particular, Korea and Japan, commonly influenced by the Chinese culture historically, have very identical commonalities socially, culturally and religiously. In this regard, the study aims at providing in-depth speculation over the traditional theater, namely performances using masks, in these three nations as well as comparative analysis on colors found in mask make-up and traditional color inclination in each country in an attempt to study their practical usage, representations and coloration images. By doing this, it also tries to find out characteristics of traditional colors in each nation derived from the same thought. In other words, this study is to comparatively analyze coloring differences in mask make-up including traditional color representations by each country especially with regard to Korean Tal-chum, Chinese Na-Heui and Japanese Noh, while also laying emphasis on color arrangement.
