초록
The present study aims to explore the effects of text summarization on the argumentative writing qualities of EFL learners at different proficiency levels. We consider argumentative writing qualities in terms of accuracy, fluency, vocabulary complexity and grammatical complexity. In this longitudinal case study, 24 essays and 21 summaries by the three participants were collected during 24 weeks. Quantitative and qualitative data reveal that depending on language proficiency levels, participants benefit on different linguistic indices. Individual changing trajectories of accuracy, fluency and complexity in argumentative writing is dynamic. There are progress and backsliding during the process. Developmental paths are different among individuals as well. The various factors including topical knowledge, language input, motivation factors can contribute to the changes.
