Abstract

As the blistering summer heat wave continues its penetration, new high-functional underwear and sportswear products are to hold the limelight. Considering this fact, the research and development on an ultra-fine paper yarn and combination yarn(paper yarn/cotton yarn) are especially necessary for the underwear and sportswear markets. Until now, there has been few studies on a circular knitted fabrics(28G) due to an unstable knitting ability causing a high initial modulus of fine combination yarn(paper yarn/cotton yarn) and a breakage of spandex yarn. This study aims to evaluate the market value of a new high-quality underwear product improving the knitting ability and appearance of the circular knitted fabric by decreasing the initial modulus of the combination yarn and reforming the guide roller of the spandex supply device, respectively. Specifically, the commercialization of the circular knitted fabrics was determined by consideration of mechanical properties(tensile property, tear strength, bursting strength, and abrasion strength), knitting ability, color fastness, and dimensional stability. This study has been conducted in order to pioneer and target a new niche market in the underwear industry.
