Communication and Convergence: A Researcher’s Jump over the Disciplinary Borderline of English Literature

This paper explores how a researcher can jump over the disciplinary borderline of English literature in current Korean academia in order to both expand the intellectual research area and generate a subjective academic discourse based on contemporary Korean everyday life. I insist that this can be accomplished through active intellectual communication among Korean scholars in English literature as well as through diverse and convergent collaborations with Korean researchers in other disciplines, while striving for interdisciplinarity. Influenced by the rapid transformation of knowledge production and of the circulation system related to contemporary technological enhancement, the role of the Korean researcher in English literature is also demanded to be transformed. Thus, for creating a subjective academic discourse, we need to try various methods of intellectual communication and a diverse convergence among Korean scholars, as well as interpreting and analyzing our intellectual position within the global academic community.
