초록

This paper analyzes writing pieces of thirty Chinese college EFL students and attempts to find out what errors they make, what the most common errors are, and why these errors occur. The findings are as follows: First, errors made by the EFL students primarily fall into three levels: substance level, text level, and discourse level. Second, the errors at the text level are most common and constitute 74%, of which grammar errors are 66% and lexical errors are 34%. Third, the reasons that may cause the EFL students to make such errors have three types: interlingual causes (lexical, sentence, and discourse errors), intralingual causes (overgeneralization, errors in mastering and appling rules) and other causes (errors related to students and teachers).
