‘끊어 버림’과 ‘신앙 고백’ 예식에 대한 신비 교육적 고찰: 예루살렘 키릴루스의 『신비 교육』을 중심으로

본고는 『어른 입교 예식』이 제시하는 신비 교육을 실현하기 위한 교리 교육적인 성찰을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 예식서가 신학적 준거이며 원천으로 삼았던 초기 교회의 교부들 가운데 예루살렘의 키릴루스가 ‘끊어 버림’과‘신앙 고백’ 예식에 대해 실시한 신비 교육적 강론을 분석하였다. 키릴루스는 세례 이전의 두 예식 안에서 사탄의 종살이에 묶여 있던 옛 인간의 상태를 끊어 버리고 그리스도께로 ‘돌아서’ 그분께 대한 신앙을 고백하는 ‘회개’ 가 이루어진다고 보았다. 그에게 전례 예식은 하느님께서 교회를 통해 이루어 가시는 구원의 행위였기에, 하느님께서 이루어 가시는 구원 경륜의 극적인 ‘틀’ 안에서 예식들을 해석한다. 이때 예식들을 해석하는 원천은 성경을활용하는데, 다른 교부들도 자주 활용했던 예형론적 성경 해석 방법을 적용하여 성경의 사건들과 인물들 안에서 발견되는 예식의 예형을 비추어 해설하였다. 아울러 당시 자연적, 인간적 상징 체계를 폭넓게 활용하여 세례 이전 예식들을 통해 체험한 신비의 의미를 밝혀주었다. 이를 통해 키릴루스는그리스도와 맺게 되는 친밀한 관계와 새 신자들의 변화된 그리스도인의 실존을 깨닫게 하고 이를 세례 예식과 성찬례를 통해 더욱 심화시키고자 했다. 이러한 분석을 바탕으로 오늘날 교회의 신비 교육 실천에 필요한 신학적 원리와 교리 교육적 요소들을 발견하였는데, 이는 구원의 역사라는 극적인‘틀’을 통해 성경을 원천으로 예식에 감추어진 신비를 해석하는 것, 또한 현대의 다양한 상징 체계를 활용하여 신비를 풍부하게 해석하는 것, 교회 공동체와 함께 충실히 전례를 거행하는 것, 신비의 의미를 밝혀주는 탁월한 자리로서 강론을 활용하는 것이다.
Abstract
This article delves into a catechetical reflection aimed at grasping the essence of ‘Mystagogy’ as presented in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults(RICA). To achieve this, it analyzes the mystagogical homilies delivered by Cyril of Jerusalem concerning the rites of ‘Renunciation of sin’ and ‘Profession of faith,’ drawing from the practices of the early Church Fathers which serve as theological foundations for the RCIA. Cyril perceives these preliminary ceremonies before baptism as pivotal moments of ‘conversion’, wherein individuals sever ties with their former state bound by the shackles of Satan‘s dominion, turn towards Christ, and declare their allegiance to Him. He views these liturgical rites as salvific acts orchestrated by God through the agency of the Church, interpreting them within the dramatic narrative of God’s redemptive plan. At the heart of his interpretation lies the Scriptures, particularly employing typological analysis—a method widely employed by other Church Fathers—to elucidate the significance of these rites by aligning them with the symbolic patterns found in biblical events and figures. Furthermore, Cyril adeptly employs contemporary natural and human symbolisms to unveil the profound meaning encapsulated within the Mystery experienced through the pre-baptismal ceremonies. Through this multifaceted approach, Cyril endeavors to awaken the neophytes to their profound union with Christ and their transformed identity as Christians, a journey further deepened through the rites of baptism and the Eucharist. Drawing from this analysis, the article identifies the theological principles and catechetical elements imperative for contemporary mystical education within the Church: interpreting the veiled mysteries of liturgy through the dramatic narrative of salvation history and Scripture, enriching the understanding of these mysteries by employing diverse modern symbolic frameworks, and faithfully engaging in the celebration of liturgy within the communal embrace of the Church, while utilizing the homily as a potent platform for explicating the profound significance of these mysteries.
