영국의 숲 학교 운영현황 및 국내 숲유치원 활성화 방안 연구

본 연구는 영국 숲학교(Forest School)의 발달과정과 현황을 소개하고 한국의 숲유치원 활성화를 위한 시사점을 찾기 위한 목적으로 실행되었다. 국내에 유럽의 숲유치원이 도입되어 국가적·민간적 차원에서 숲유치원 운영의 기반을 구축하였으나, 한국형 숲유치원으로서의 본질과 정체성을 찾아 도약 발전해야 하는 시점에 처해 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 ‘자유로운 공기속에서의 삶’속에 태동된 북유럽 문화권의 숲유치원과 달리 산업화로 대표되는 사회·문화적·환경적 배경 속에 태동된 영국 숲학교의 발달과정과 현황, 운영체계를 다양한 문헌을 통해 조사하였으며, 연구자가 영국 숲학교협회와 숲학교를 직접 방문하여 이루어진 현장 관찰과 인터뷰 등을 통해 보다 자세한 정보를 부가하였다. 이를 통해 한국형 숲유치원 활성화에 대한 방안을 제시하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine the history and current management status of UK’s Forest school and find an implications for vitalizing Korean Forest Kindergarten. Data were gathered from books, research articles, newspapers, internet webpages and direct visiting UK’s forest school and Forest School Association(FSA). UK’s forest school has developed nationally agreed forest school concept, ethos and guidelines for operating forest school in the context of “industralization” culture which is compared to “Friluftsliv” Scandinavian culture. In 2012 the Forest School Association(FSA) was formed, with representatives from all four countries of the UK on the Executive Board. In 1995, Forest school training started in the Brigewater college and now it’s been operating through OCN(Open College Network) qualification, which began in 2003. Forest School is now used in all area of the UK, having spread rapidly from the South West of England. With UK’s implication, this paper strongly suggested developing Korean Forest Kindergarten’s universal definition, ethos and basic guidelines to establishing its identity.
