Abstract

This study analyzes the performance theory perspective using the literature travel of 'Sin Dong-yeop's Seoul Era' as a text in order to examine the performance of 'poetry' as a performance. Poetry has been recognized as a reading poem rather than a reading, but recently, a series of performances are being performed to recite and act 'poetry'. This comes from the times' request to restore the original recital and secure the identity of a new 'poetry'. Therefore, this study examines the question of whether poetry can be explained as an event and act, and the question of how the performance of poetry is made to enable the performance implementation, away from the existing poetic customs, focusing on this text. For this purpose, first of all, I examine the conditions and forms of poetry as a performance. 'Sin Dong-yeop's Seoul Era' has performance conditions such as performers, audience-participants, space, and 'poetry' media to perform 'poetry' as a performance. In addition, performance is achieved by utilizing the performance format such as recitation performed by performer, short situational drama, closing comment, audience-participant recitation, photo shoot, and response. These performative requirements are deeply involved in the interactive relationship between the performer and the audience-participant and help the performance of the 'poetry'. 'Playing poetry' means accepting poetry as an event, and this event focuses on 'existing' itself, thereby achieving cultural practice through interaction between performers and audience-participants. Therefore, 'poetry' is no longer an object of visual satisfaction but also a linguistic event that is remembered as a body, and requires a new understanding and interpretation of 'poetry'. In addition, by experiencing 'poetry' as an existing event, we can face the problematic reality and get a prospect to prepare for future life.
