근대 전래동화 「해와 달」의 텍스트 양상— 한글 자료를 중심으로

본고는 근대 시기에 한글로 씌어진 전래동화 「해와 달」을 자료적으로 검토하고 그 텍스트 양상을 고찰하였다. 1910년대를 전후하여 우리의 옛이야기가 다양한 근대식 인쇄 매체에 문자화되는 과정에서 전래동화 장르가 형성되었고, 그 경과 속에서 「해와 달」 이야기도 현재 7편의 텍스트로 남아 있다. 이들을 대상으로 하여 작가와 서지 사항, 자료상의 의의를 살피고 그 텍스트 양상을 비교·논의하였다. 특히 서사 내용과 구성을 분석하기 위해 등장인물의 기능 양상에 주목한 결과, 직분교체 기능, 금지/위반 기능 단락에 논점이 집중되었다. 이와 같은 논점들에 의해 밝힌 「해와 달」의 텍스트 양상이 근대 전래동화로서의 장르적 정체성을 구현하고 있다. 근대 시기의 전래동화 텍스트는 오늘날의 전래동화 장르를 형성한 원형이자 원천이다. 전래동화를 재화·각색하는 아동문학 문단이나 출판계가 작품성이 담보될 수 있는 텍스트를 확보하기 위해 근대 전래동화 텍스트를 발굴하고 연구하는 데 힘써야 할 것이다. 근대 시기의 「해와 달」 자료들이 보여주는 텍스트 양상은 아동문화와 아동교육 현장에서 「해와 달」을 재화·각색할 때 유념해야 할 부분들을 환기시켜 준다. 「해와 달」을 비롯한 근대 전래동화 형성기의 구술/기록 자료들을 살펴 우리 옛이야기가 품고 있는 텍스트의 원형성과 다양성을 확보하는 노력이 지속되기를 바란다.
Abstract
This paper examines the traditional Korean folktale “The Sun and the Moon” written in Hangul during the modern period, and analyzes the textual aspects revealed by the collected materials. Since the 1910s, our folktales have been recorded in various modern printed media. Seven materials of “The Sun and the Moon” written during that period were secured. Based on these materials, the paper examines their historical significance and compares and analyzes the textual aspects they possess. In particular, the paper focuses on the functional aspects of the characters to analyze the narrative content and structure. As a result, the textual aspects of “The Sun and the Moon” revealed by these issues were found to embody the genre identity of modern traditional folktales. The texts of modern traditional folktales from the modern period are the original and primary sources that formed the current genre of traditional folktales. Therefore, we need to make an effort to excavate and study the texts of modern traditional folktales in order to secure texts that guarantee artistic quality for the field of children’s literature and publishing. The textual aspects of “The Sun and the Moon” and other materials from the modern period that formed the genre of traditional folktales should be remembered when recreating and reinterpreting them in the field of children’s culture and education. We hope that efforts will continue to be made to examine and secure the originality and diversity of the texts contained in our old stories by carefully examining the oral and recorded materials that formed the foundation of modern traditional folktales.
