본고는 에마뉘엘 레비나스의 타자 철학을 바탕으로 <김씨 표류기>에 나타난 고독과 소통의 의미를 천착하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그 동안 <김씨 표류기>에 대한 연구에서 고독과 소통은 분리되어 다루어졌다. 하지만 이 영화가 고독한 두 개인 간의 소통을 주제로 한다는 점에서 두 개념은 서로간의 관계 속에서 살펴질 필요가 있다. 본고가 레비나스의 타자 철학으로 <김씨 표류기>를 분석함으로써 얻을 수 있는의의는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 본고는 영화의 공간과 인물의 행동이 갖는 실존적 의미를 설명한다. 아울러, 본고는 인물 간의 소통과 만남이 지닌 실존적·윤리적 함의와 효과를 밝힌다. <김씨 표류기>의 두 주인공에게 고립은 생존의 수단이다. 이러한 설정은 자아와타인 간의 관계를 재고할 기반으로 작용한다. 세상으로부터 쫓겨난 두 인물은 각자만의 고독 속에서 자기를 정립하고 유지한다. 남자 김 씨는 밤섬에서 먹는 행위를 통해 자기를 정립하고, 거주와 노동을 통해 자기를 유지하며 ‘가능’으로서의 자유를 확인한다. 그러나 역설적이게도 이러한 자유는 ‘나’로부터 벗어날 수 없는 부조리에 놓인다. 이는여자 김 씨와의 소통을 통해 해결된다. 두 인물 간의 대화를 구성하는 인사와 자기소개는 타자의 현전을 보전하고 얼굴로 마주한다는 점에서 윤리적 관계를 설립한다. 두 인물의 마주함은 세계를 구성하는 체계 밖에서 이루어진다는 점에서 이전과는 전혀 다른 새로운 미래의 가능성을 연다. 아울러, 이 영화는 반성적 이미지를 통해관객에게 미래로의 이행에 대한 윤리적 태도를 요구한다.
Abstract
This paper aims to explore the meaning of solitude and communication in <Castaway On The Moon> based on Levinas’ philosophy. <Castaway On The Moon> is about communication between two solitary individuals. Therefore, the two concepts need to be studied in relation to each other. The significance of this paper by analyzing <Castaway On The Moon> with Levinas’ philosophy is as folows. First, this paper explains the existential meaning of the space of the movie and the actions of the characters. In addition, this paper reveals the existential and ethical implications and effects of communication between characters. For the two main characters of <Castaway On The Moon>, isolation is a means of survival. These settings serve as the basis for reconsidering relationships with others. Male Kim posits himself through the act of eating, maintains himself through dweling and labor, and confirms his freedom as a capability. Female Kim preserves the presence of the other through greetings and self-introduction and faces each other with her face. The face-to-face between the two characters opens up a new future that is completely different from before in that it takes place outside the system that constitutes the world. Through a reflective image, the film demands an ethical attitude toward the transition to the future from the audience.
