Abstract

This study analyzed the process by which a depressed and hostile-submissive client’s interpersonal characteristics change through corrective relational experiences(CRE) with a counselor. In the post-interview, the client drew up a graph of emotions for the counselor based on the reflective writings of each 12 sessions and responded to changes due to CRE. In addition, we used IMI-C to measure the change in the client’s interpersonal type with generalized others before counseling and at the time of 3, 6, 9, 12 session, 1 month and 3 months after counseling, and at the time of 3, 6, 9 12 session with the counselor and CES-D to identify the change in depression before counseling and at time of 12 session, 1 month and 3 months after counseling. Based on the collected data, we analyzed counseling relationships for each session and changes inherent in CRE. Changes inherent in CRE included changes in relationships with counselors and interpersonal relationships. A hostile-submissive and depressed client showed therapeutic results in improving subjectivity and intersubjectivity through CRE, changing the direction of friendly-dominant and reducing depression. Lastly, discussions on change, CRE, and therapeutic counseling relationships were presented.
