초록
(Purpose) This study attempted an empirical analysis, using the case of Sejong Special Self-Governing City, to investigate the factors influencing sustained participation in voluntary crime prevention activities. (Design/methodology/approach) In the research analysis, independent variables affecting the dependent variable, sustained participation in voluntary crime prevention, were categorized into local factors, administrative factors, and perceived performance factors. Hierarchical moderated regression analysis was employed to examine the group differences between the public sector and the citizen sector. (Findings) The analysis revealed that, among local factors, affection for the place of residence significantly increased participation, while a longer duration of residence showed a negative correlation with sustained participation. Among administrative factors, the level of collaboration with the police force acted as a factor promoting sustained participation in the moderated effect model; however, this interaction effect was distinctly more salient for public officials than for patrol members, where it appeared limited. (Research implications or Originality) Based on these findings, the policy implications of this study are presented as follows: First, regarding voluntary crime prevention activities within local public security governance, a balance must be struck between autonomy-based activities and administrative support to ensure that such support is not perceived by voluntary patrol members as a form of control. Second, to alleviate the fatigue and reduced expectations among long-term residents participating in voluntary crime prevention, it is necessary to establish a local public security governance platform where the public sector and civil society engage as equal partners, supported by institutional arrangements capable of stimulating motivational factors.
