Abstract
This research investigates how Asians' appraisal of democratic effectiveness affects their perception of US liberal leadership. Perception of declining democratic effectiveness is likely to force Asians to less favor US global leadership under the current power transition. This research tests this claim by adopting Asian Barometer Survey Data and empirical analyses shows that Asian countries, albeit power transition, favor US leadership in the region and perceive democracy as proper type of political system. However, as they perceive the effectiveness declining, they favor Chinese leadership in the political domain. Meanwhile, as worse economic condition leads Asians to favor US leadership, it makes the US to revise its current regional strategy of the Indo-Pacific to concentrate more on economic engagement in the region.
