Abstract
This study aims to systematically analyze and theorize the characteristics of fandom politics in South Korea. The research focuses on the prominent influence of political fandoms, particularly evident during Moon Jae-in's presidency and Park Geun-hye's impeachment process. Using a Grounded Theory approach, the study analyzes domestic and international academic literature to identify key features and dynamics of fandom politics. The methodology involves theoretical sampling and a three-stage coding process: open, axial, and selective coding. Findings reveal that South Korean fandom politics is characterized by the convergence of politics and entertainment, gender and generational conflicts, digital media advancement, and collectivist culture. While it promotes political participation and democratic engagement, it also risks intensifying polarization and social conflicts. The study highlights the importance of understanding this duality to enhance Korean democracy. It provides an in-depth analysis of fandom politics and establishes a theoretical foundation for future research, aiming to balance the phenomenon's positive and negative aspects for democratic development in South Korea.
