Abstract
The process of name change, geomorphological elements, and the relationship between geology and relief concerning the Baeckhwa Mountains were studies from the literature review and map analysis, field work, and the DEM and geological data analysis using GIS tools. The names such as the Baeckhwa Mountains, Poseong-Bong, Juhaeng-Bong etc. first appeared on the 1:50,000 map which published in 1923, and in recent, all of them disappeared on the maps abruptly. The geomorphological elements such as stream piracy, incised meander, channel cut-off and old channel, piedmont slope etc. were identified around the Baeckhwa Mountains. It was estimated that the order of resistance to weathering and erosion would be orthophyre > gneiss > granite > sedimentary rock. Therefore, those geological characteristics should be the dominant causes of ?utte?figure and relief reversal developed on piedmont slopes.
