합심기도와 음악의 관계에 대한 연구

이 연구의 목적은 세 가지이다. 첫째, 기도와 음악이 어떤 관계에 있는지 고찰하는 것이고, 둘째, 말 대신에 노래로 하는 합심기도에는 어떤 장점이 있는지 살펴보는 것이고, 가장 중요한 셋째 목적은, 합심기도 중에 음악을 사용하는 목적이 무엇이고 어떤 유익이 있는지, 그리고 음악사용에 있어서 주의할 점이 무엇인지 고찰하는 것이다. 본 연구자는 성경시대로부터 시작하여 오늘날까지 오랜 세월 동안 기도와 음악이 밀접한 관계를 맺어 왔고, 노래가 기도의 한 방법으로 예전부터 사용되어 왔음을 확인하였다. 그리고 합심기도의 한 방법으로 노래를 사용하면 말로 할 때에 비해 감성이 더 자극되고 감정 표현도 더 자연스러워지고, 회중의 마음이 하나로 모아지는 장점이 있음을 설명하였다. 마지막으로 본 연구자의 지인 수십 명으로부터 받은 SNS 댓글들과 인지심리학, 신경과학 등의 연구 결과를 종합하여, 합심기도 중 음악사용의 목적과 유익을 일곱 가지로 나누어 살펴보았다: 1) 분위기를 조성하여 준다; 2) 기도에 집중하게 도와준다; 3) 기도를 북돋아 준다; 4) 다른 사람에 신경 쓰지 않고 기도하게 도와준다; 5) 큰 소리로 기도하게 도와준다; 6) 오래 기도하도록 도와준다; 그리고 7) 기도 시간 조절을 용이하게 해준다. 이어서 음악사용 시 주의해야 할 점을 네 가지 지적하였다: 1) 기도 집중에 방해되는 요소; 2) 인위적인 감정 유도; 3) 인위적인 큰 소리 유도; 그리고 4) 음악의 우상화 위험. 마지막으로 결론 부분에서 후속 연구자들을 위해 몇 가지 제안을 제시하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is threefold: 1) to investigate the relationship between prayer and music; 2) to explore the advantages of the united prayer by singing; and finally 3) to examine the purposes and benefits of the music played during the united prayer. The research showed that prayer and music have had a close relationship in all the history of the Christian church and the practice of sung prayer has a long tradition. It also explained that the united prayer by singing may touch our emotions more deeply and help us to express them more naturally. Then, with the results of studies from such areas as brain science and cognitive psychology and the several dozens of comments collected by the researcher through SNS, it examined the purposes and benefits of the music: 1) it creates an atmosphere for prayer; 2) it helps the congregation to concentrate on praying; 3) it encourages their prayer; 4) it helps them not bothered about others while praying; 5) it helps them to pray in a loud voice; 6) it helps them to pray long; and 7) it makes it easy for the leaders to control the prayer time. Four things also were mentioned to be careful when playing music during the united prayer time: 1) to make the congregation fail to concentrate on prayer due to music; 2) to make an attempt to manipulate their emotions; 3) to make an attempt to make them pray in a loud voice; and 4) to use music as an idol. In conclusion, a few recommendations were suggested for further research.
