고령사회로 접어든 한국은 급속한 노인인구의 증가와 더불어 다양한 사회문제를 경험하고 있다. 사회복지 차원에서는 노인들을 위한 다양한 정책을 내 놓으며 다가올 초고령 사회를 준비하고 있다. 노인장기요양보험제도, 노인일자리, 노인공동하우스, 커뮤니티 케어, 생애 말 돌봄을 비롯한 정책뿐 아니라 연명의료결정법은 죽음에 관한 개인의 자기의사결정권을 존중하여 인간으로서의 삶의 존엄함을 유지하도록 돕고 있다. 품위 있는 삶과 아름다운 마무리에 대한 사회적 관심이 깊어지고 있는 가운데, 노년기와 관련한 사회적 문제들을 해결하기 위한 신학과 실천의 방향을 논의하는 것은 의미 있는 일이다. 실천신학은 인간이 겪는 다양한 경험을 이해하고 구체적인 상황에 대한 해석을 통해 행동으로 이어지는 신앙공동체의 실천 운동이다. 이러한 신학실천을 위해 본 논문에서는 노년기에 겪는 상실에 중점을 두면서 죽음준비교육의 중요성과 필요성에 대해 논한다. 이를 위해, 먼저 실천신학의 과제 및 주제와 방향에 대한 논의로 시작한다. 둘째, 노년기에 겪게 되는 다양한 상실 문제들을 다루면서, 배우자 사별, 우울증, 독거, 자살생각에 관해 논한다. 셋째, 실천신학 차원에서 죽음준비교육을 중요하게 다뤄야 할 이유에 대해 설명하고, 노년기 죽음준비교육의 필요성과 주제에 대해서 기술한다. 특별히, 사별 이후 애도의 과정을 돕기 위한 신앙공동체의 중요성과 실천을 다룬다. 죽음을 미리 경험할 수 없는 것처럼 노년기도 미리 살수 없다. 하지만, 죽음에 대한 성찰은 삶의 의미를 새롭게 하고, 풍성한 삶으로 이끌어 주며, 오늘을 영원의 삶으로 살 수 있는 지혜를 전해 준다. 그러기에, 신앙공동체의 상황에 맞는 죽음준비교육 프로그램 개발과 적용을 통해 현대사회가 겪고 있는 노년기 문제들을 경감시킬 수 있는 교회의 실천이 필요하다.
Abstract
In aging society of Korea, the elderly population has been increasing with raising various social issues. Korea government has prepared policies for the elderly in order to improving their lives. Particularly, there are some support systems for taking care of the elderly such as long-term care insurance, end of life care, and community care. Moreover, government enacted Act on Life-Sustaining Treatment Determination. Advance Medical Directives as a written document can be specified by an individual in order to decide what medical care want to receive for the time when being unable to make decisions about medical treatment. In this way, people have much concerned about life quality of old age and dying with dignity. It is exact time to discuss about the role of practical theology to engage in the social issues and develop theological idea because practical theology is a practice of the church based on understanding human experiences and interpretation of specific contexts moving toward an action. In this thesis, I focus on death education and grief counseling for the elderly. First, I discuss on the issues, tasks, and subject of practical theology. Second, I deal with diverse losses that can face in old age such as material loss, relational loss, functional loss, and role loss resulting in depression, isolation, living alone, and suicidal thought. Third, I explain the importance of the death education in the practical theological perspective. Particularly, the necessity of the death education in old age will be described, and I deal with how the church can assist bereaved people who is in the mourning process after death of loved one. People cannot experience their own death in advance. However, if they are able to reflect on their own death in advance, they can live their lives more fully renewing the meaning of life. Thus, it needs to develop death education and its program, and apply it to the church for the elderly so that social problems the elderly meet can be reduced.
