본 연구는 초기 기독교의 즉흥적 성찬 기도와 사도전승이라고 불리는 3세기에 기록된 성찬예전에 대한 연구이다. 예배학자들은 3세기 이전의 성찬 기도는 문자로 기록된 기도문을 사용했다기보다 집례자가 즉흥적인 성찬 기도를 했을 것이라고 주장한다. 그 중에서도 앨런 불리(Allan Bouley)의 주장은 상당히 타당성이 있는 역사적 증거들을 중심으로 중요한 가설을 제시하였다. 이 논문은 불리의 가설로부터 시작하며 이 즉흥적 성찬 기도의 역사적 발전과정 그리고 이에 관련된 여러 초기 기독교의 예배에 관련된 문헌들을 고찰하고 이에 대한 의의와 목회현장에서의 현대적인 적용을 기술하려한다. 본 연구를 진행하면서 필자는 다음과 같은 결론에 도달하였다. 초기 기독교의 성찬은 집례자의 즉흥적 기도로 비교적 자유로운 형식으로 거행되었다가 3세기의 사도전승의 성찬을 정점으로 점차 사라지게 되었다. 사도전승의 성찬 기도문은 자유로운 즉흥적 기도 형식의 기록된 모형으로 제시하기 위한 기도문이다. 따라서, 이러한 예배 전통을 현대 목회현장에 적용한다면 비예전적 예배 전통의 교회들은 즉흥적 성찬 기도문에 따른 성찬을 집례할 수 있다. 이 연구는 다음과 같은 순서로 진행된다. 2장에서는 초기 기독교에서 즉흥적 성찬 기도문이 어떻게 시작되었으며 발전했는지에 대한 역사적 고찰을 기술할 것이다. 주요한 문서로 디다케와 순교자 유스티누스의 첫 번째 변증록, 그리고 사도전승을 중심으로 다룰 것이다. 3장에서는 3세기 성찬예전의 중심자료인 사도전승에 나타난 성찬 기도문에 세밀하게 분석하면서 즉흥적 구조에서 틀을 지닌 구조로 발전하게 된 과정에 대해 다룰 것이다. 마지막 장인 4장에서 이렇게 연구한 즉흥적 성찬 기도를 현대의 목회 현장에서 어떻게 적용할 수 있는가에 대한 연구로 사도전승을 기준으로 하여 즉흥적 성찬 기도를 어떻게 구성하고 집례할 것인지에 대한 연구와 함께 이 논문의 요약과 결론을 짧게 기술할 것이다.
Abstract
This research deals with an improvised eucharistic prayer in early Christianity as well as the first written anaphora ‘so called Apostolic Tradition’ in third century. Liturgical scholars argue that the eucharistic prayers before the third century would have been improvised by the presider rather than using written prayers. Among them, Allan Bouley's arguments presented an important hypothesis focusing on highly valid historical evidences. This research begins with the hypothesis of Bully. Examining the historical development process of this improvised eucharistic prayer as well as the related historical resources in early Christian liturgy, I attempt to describe its significance and application in the contemporary ministry field. Researching this subject, I have arrived at following conclusions. The eucharist of early Christianity was celebrated in a relatively free form through the improvisation of the presider, but gradually disappeared at the peak of the anaphora of the apostolic tradition in the third century. The eucharistic prayer of the Apostolic Tradition was the written prayer intended to be presented as a ‘written model of free improvised prayer.’ Therefore, if this tradition is applied to the contemporary ministry field, the churches of the non-liturgical tradition may preside the Eucharist according to the improvised eucharistic prayer. This thesis proceeds in the following order. In chapter 2, I will describe a historical consideration of how the improvised eucharistic prayer began, and developed in early Christianity. I will focus on the main documents, Didache, the first apology of Justin the martyr, and the Apostolic Tradition. in chapter 3, I will deal with developing process from an improvised structure of eucahristic prayer to that of a framed structure, analyzing the eucharistic prayer appearing in the Apostolic Tradition, the crucial evidence of the third century Eucharist. In chapter 4, the last chapter of this paper, I will present how the improvised eucharistic prayer will be shaped and practiced based on the anaphora of the Apostolic Tradition in the contemporary ministry field, and described the brief summary and conclusion of this research.
