Abstract

Some women pastoral theologians argue that women's experiences and perspectives should be taken into serious considerations in the area of contemporary pastoral care and counseling. The pastoral counseling and theology have made an outstanding contribution to the association of complex theological issues with everyday lives of human beings. However, the pastoral theology and counseling have thought of men's experiences and perspectives as norms of humans, while those of women have seen as abnormal or problematic under the influence of traditional theology and psychology. Thus, new pastoral theological attempts should be pursued toward the exploration of equality and diversity among human beings. In this paper, I intended to bring into diverse voices and perspectives to the area of contemporary pastoral theology and counseling. In contrast to traditional pastoral counseling and theology, feminist pastoral counselors and theologians have put on much emphasis on experiences of women in their pastoral studies. Yet, the feminist studies, who are mainly middle-class white women have studied on white women's experiences. In reality, women have been very diverse and multiple according to their caste, sex orientation, ethnicity, and personal experiences. I desired to bring the diverse experiences from the perspective of an Asian woman. I explored two biblical metaphors for pastoral counseling for Asian women. In doing so, the followings were discussed: the understanding of Asian women's experiences, the exploration of biblical metaphors, and pastoral implications of the biblical stories.
