인지치료와 담화이론의 만남: - 우울한 여성을 위한 목회상담 -

아론 벡이 정신분석학의 과학성을 증명하기 위한 과정 중에 고안한 인지치료는 우울한 남녀 내담자 상담에 가장 효과적인 방안이라고 알려져 왔다. 인지치료는 또한 단기상담이 가능하며 내담자의 인지구조에 관심하기 때문에 장기상담에 전념하기 힘든 목회의 구조 속에서, 내담자의 신학적 사고에 많은 관심을 표명하는 목회상담의 상황에서, 목회상담가들 역시 선호해온 치료적 접근이다. 그런데 우울한 여성을 대상으로 할 때 인지치료가 가장 효과적이라고 말하기는 어렵다. 즉, 젠더 관점에서 볼 때 여성 심리학자들이 주장하는 바와 같이 여성의 우울은 여성의 인지왜곡과 같은 심리내적 문제에서 야기하는 것이 아니라 여성이 가부장제 문화에서 경험하는 현실 때문에 발생하는 경우도 많기 때문이다. 가정내 폭력, 가사 불균형, 경제적인 문제 등과 같이 여성이 실제 일상에서 경험하는 여러 가지 요인들이 우울의 주요 요인이기도 하다. 이의 문제를 해결하고자 본 논문은 우울한 여성을 대상으로 인지치료를 실시할 경우 담화이론관점에서 보완해야 한다고 주장한다. 담화이론은 모든 지식은 사회적으로 구성되어, 한 개인의 인지 역시 개인 내면에서 독자적으로 파생된 것이 아니라 개인을 둘러싼 가족, 결혼, 제도, 학교, 종교의 담론에 영향 받고 경쟁한다고 본다. 이의 관점에서 볼 때 여성의 우울은 다양한 사회적 담론의 경합 속에서 조장되는데, 특히 가부장제 하 종교, 문화, 가족의 지배담론인 ‘여성성 담론’이 여성 우울에 매우 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 본다. 따라서 우울한 여성을 대상으로 한 인지치료는 담화이론의 관점에서 이론과 실제를 재구성하는 것이 필요하다. 구체적으로 개인의 내면을 통제하고 우울을 조장하는 지배담론의 전복, 저항담론의 발견, 그리고 대안적 하부문화 및 공동체와의 연계를 주장한다.
Abstract
It is known that the cognitive therapy is the most effective for the treatment of depressed persons, men and women. Aaron Beck newly discovered the cognitive theory and skills during the clinical examination of psychotherapy. Because the cognitive theory is time-limited and is concerned about one's construction of cognition, pastoral counselors also express much appreciation to the cognitive therapy for the pastoral counseling of depressed people, women and men. However, is the cognitive theory really the most effective for the care of depressed women? Considering the gender issue, the cognitive theory, I think, should be re-examined with the help of the discourse theory. One's cognitions and knowledges are socially constructed according to the discourse theory. Women's depression is mainly due to the discourse of femininity, the hegemonic discourse of societies, religions, and practices. Therefore, subverting the monolithic discourse, recovering the resistance discourse, and connecting with the alternative subculture are useful for the pastoral care of the depressed women.
