대중음악의 설교 활용에 관한 시안

본 시안은 현재 교회에서 전혀 사용되지 않았던 대중가요와 그 가사를 설교에 활용할 수 있는 방안을 제시하기 위하여 기획되었다. 현 시대를 종교의 시대, 영성의 시대, 성령의 시대라고들 하며 세계적으로 꾸준히 종교인구가 증가하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 개신교 인구는 오히려 감소하는 추세이다. 이는 개신교가 현 시대의 영적인 요구에 부응하지 못하고 있는 이유이기도 하다. 필자는 그런 이유 중에 개신교회가 현대의 문화를 보다 적극적으로 수용 및 활용하지 못하고 있다고 진단하며 보다 효과적인 선교적 전략을 위하여 대중가요를 활용한 설교를 제시하고 있다. 대중가요를 활용한 설교의 가장 중요한 두 축은 가사를 본문으로 적극 활용한다는 것이며 또한 설교 중 대중가요를 감상한다는 것이다. 자칫 잘못하면 상업적인 저속한 문화를 신성한 교회의 현장과 거룩한 말씀 속으로 끌어들일 수도 있는 위험한 시도를 필자는 매우 조심스럽고 세밀하게 실험하고 있다. 그리고 이러한 실험의 뒤에는 ‘복음’과 ‘선교’라는 최종적인 목적을 가지고 있다. 감성과 소통의 시대에 이러한 최종 목적을 달성하기 위하여 노래설교는 교회가 활용할 수 있는 하나의 문화적 선교전략임을 필자는 주장한다.
Abstract
This study has suggested an experimental proposal for popular-music preaching, more specifically, the preaching which used lyrics of popular music. Recently, people has said that this century will be the age of religion, of spirituality, or of Holy Spirit. In the worldwide, the religious population has been increasing up to now. Nevertheless, the population of protestant churches has declined. There are a varieties of scholarly notions about the reasons according to which church and society has related. Among many reason, some has pointed out that the protestant churches demonstrated very exclusive stances against popular culture. For this reason, the church has not communicated with the society and popular culture, in particular, the emerging generation. Hence, this study was designed for suggesting a methodological solution for status quo of church. Methodologically, there are several points for preparing popular music preaching. First of all, preachers have to choose the song which will be presented at the sermon. It must be careful to select the music because all popular musics are not appropriate to preach. Second, preachers and ministers have to research the information about artist and the history of the selected song for the sake of making story. Since Fred Craddock has published As One without Authority, the storytelling sermon has been suggested as one of the effective and impressive preaching. Craddock and E. Lowry have found the prototype of storytelling sermon from the Jesus preaching in the Gospels. To make a story, the preacher can weave the fabrics of lyrics, artist's information such as life story, and the history of the song. Finally, for the effective popular music sermon, the preacher had better accustom him/herself to the Hi-Fi audio system. Conclusively, the most important aspect for the popular music preaching will be the proclamation of the gospel. To doing so, the preachers should be careful to deal with popular music and culture in their preachings.
