부정적 감정으로서의 ‘고독’문제 극복을 위한 교회의 지원에 관한 연구

현대사회에서 고독은 일반적으로 인간 개개인의 사회적 상호작용의 부재상태 혹은 결핍상태를 일컫는 부정적 개념으로 이해해 왔다. 그러나 이와는 반대로 고독은 ‘인간실존의 기본적 사실’이기도 하다. 하지만 최근 고독사와 같은 사회적 현상들이 우리 인간 삶의 주변에서 자주 발생되고 있음을 발견하며 사람들은 고독의 부정적 의미에 집중하거나 병리적 현상으로 인식하기에 익숙해 졌다. 따라서 본 연구는 먼저 개념적 양의성을 지닌 고독이란 무엇인가를 살펴보고, 이 가운데 오늘날 사회의 심각성을 더해가고 있는 고독의 부정적 기능을 토대로 고독의 선행조건과 고독 경험의 특성 및 고독에 대한 대처행동을 분석하여 제시하였다. 그리고 이 논의에 근거하여 인간 실존에 부정적으로 작용하는 고독의 문제를 예방 및 대처하기 위해 사회적 기관으로서 교회는 어떠한 지원을 해야 하는지 살펴보았다. 특히 목회적 돌봄(pastoral care)을 위한 방편으로서 교회의 지원과 관련된 부분을 중심으로 논의하였다. 먼저 생활문제를 해결하기 위한 도움을 직접적인 자원으로 제공하는 ‘직접적 지원’에 대해서는 이미 많은 논의들이 있어왔고, 그 당위성에 대해서는 굳이 설명할 필요가 없기에 생략하였고, 다음의 세 가지에 초점을 맞추어 논의하였다. 부정적 감정으로서의 ‘고독’문제를 극복하도록 돕기 위해 교회는 첫째, 교회가 지닌 다양한 사회적 자원을 통해 사회와 인간을 연결시켜 줌으로써 사회적 유대관계를 형성시켜 나갈 수 있도록 지원하는 정보적 지원을 제공해야 한다. 둘째, 교회의 돌봄 사역으로서 인생의 위기에 직면해 절망과 상실감에 빠진 이들을 돌보고 쓰러지지 않도록 지탱해주며, 삶을 권면함으로써 끊임없는 선택의 기로에서 올바른 결정을 할 수 있도록 돕는 인도의 사역인 심방을 통한 정서적 지원을 제공해야 한다. 셋째, 성경말씀에 근거하여 한 사람 한 사람이 가치 있는 존재임을 인정해주고, 비록 작은 일일지라도 그들의 역할이 얼마나 중요한지를 긍정적으로 평가하며 지지해 주는 인지적 지원을 제공해야 한다.
Abstract
In the modern society, solitude was generally understood as a negative concept referring to absence or lack of social interaction between individuals. On the contrary, solitude is also 'the basic fact of human existence'. However, as social phenomena such as solitary death are frequently occurring in human life, people started to focus on the negative meaning of solitude and became familiar with recognizing solitude as a pathological phenomenon. Therefore, this study first examined the meaning of solitude with conceptual bipolarity, analyzing and suggesting preconditions of solitude, characteristics of solitary experience and response to solitude based on the negative function of solitude becoming increasingly serious in today's society. Also based on this discussion, support of the church needed as a social institution to prevent and respond to the problem of solitude having negative effect on human existence was examined. In particular, the discussion focused on support of the church as a measure of pastoral care. First, there had been many discussion about 'direct support' that provides direct resources to help resolve life problems, and their justification was omitted as it does not need to be explained. The discussion was focused on the following three points. To help overcome the problem of 'solitude' as a negative emotion, first, the church must provide informational support connecting human beings with the society through various social resources of the church to help form social ties. Second, the church must provide emotional support through visit, the duty of guidance that allows people to make proper decisions at turning points of life by taking care of people in despair and sense of loss as the duty of care. Third, the church must provide cognitive support to acknowledge every person as a valuable being based on words from the Bible and positively evaluate and support the importance of roles played by people, however trivial they may be.
