일상과 영성의 통합의 관점에서 본 영성지도

현대사회의 특징의 하나는 일상성이다. 일상이란 용어가 ‘매일의 삶에서 반복되는 것’으로 정의되기 때문에 사소하고 무의미하다는 뜻으로 생각될 수도 있지만, 오늘날 사회학을 비롯한 다양한 학문영역에서는 일상에 대한 관심이 주요한 학문적 주제로 논의되고 있다. 일상을 보는 시각은 두 가지다. 먼저 일상은 사회구조의 생산과 재생산, 개인의 생산과 재생산이 만나는 자리이기에 우리의 관심이 현재의 일상에 있어야 한다는 것이다. 즉, 현재에서 의미를 찾고 가치를 발견해야 한다는 것이다. 다른 하나는 일상을 소외의 관점에서 보는 것으로서 전인적 완성의 관점에서 볼 때, 일상 속의 한 개인이 느끼는 무력감을 극복하기 위해, 삶의 토대가 되는 어떤 ‘양식(style)’, ‘생활방식(a way of life)’의 형성이 필요하다는 것이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 그리스도인들이 일상의 삶을 하나님과의 친밀한 교제의 시간, 충만한 생명력을 느끼는 공간으로 경험하기 위해 신자들의 삶에 필요한 것은 매일의 삶에서의 영성형성이라고 제안하면서, 이를 돕기 위한 사역의 하나로서 영성지도를 제안했다. 일상의 삶과 영성지도의 상호관계를 살펴보는 연구 사례(case)로서 스코틀랜드 장로교인들의 영성지도를 선택하여 피지도자들의 영성지도 경험을 살펴보았다. 스코틀랜드 장로교인들이 참여하고 있는 영성지도는 이냐시오 방식의 영성지도였다. 이냐시오식 영성지도를 통해, 피지도자들은 ‘상상력을 이용하여 말씀으로 기도하기’와 ‘분별’을 자신들의 일상의 삶에서 실천하면서 일상의 삶을 새롭게 살게 되었다고 했다. 즉, 영성지도를 통해 자신들의 삶의 역사에서 하나님이 일하셨음을 보게 되었고, 오늘의 일상적 삶도 하나님과 함께 걷는 삶이라는 새로운 관점의 변화를 얻게 되었다고 했다. 따라서 21세기 한국교회의 목회현장에서 이냐시오식 방법을 포함하여 영성지도가 보다 활성화될 필요성이 있다고 제안했다.
Abstract
‘Everyday life’ is a characteristic of modern society, and dailiness can be defined as ‘rhythm as rules and repetition of everyday life.’ Everyday life means repetition, so it might be considered trivial and meaningless. Nevertheless, in today’s world, everyday life is discussed as a significant academic topic in a variety of academic fields including sociology. There are two different viewpoints in understanding everyday life. First, since everyday life is a place which production and reproduction of each person and social structure occur, our concerns have to be focused in the present everyday life. In other words, we should focus on the present and find the meaning in it. Second, people feel alienation and powerlessness in the present, so they need a ‘style, a formation of ‘a way of living’ which can be a foundation for their lives. This paper suggests the necessity of a space that Christians can feel a full communion with God and abundant vital force. Spiritual direction can be a ministry for this. This paper explores the experiences of spiritual directees in Scotland in order to investigate the relation of everyday life and spiritual formation. The Scottish directees took part in Ignatian spiritual direction, and as a result came to see their life experiences and everyday life in a new perspective. They gained a new perspective of how God had been working in their life history and how their everyday life is a path working with God. For these reasons, this paper proposes that spiritual direction needs to be more active in order to revitalize Christians in the 21 century ministry.
