모차르트의 <프러시아 4중주>의 상호텍스트적 분석을 통한 캐논의 재고

본 논문은 한 작품의 가치가 논의되고 캐논이 형성되는 양상을 재고하고자‘프러시아 4중주’로 불리는 모차르트의 마지막 현악 4중주들(K.575, 589, 590)을 분석의 대상으로 삼았다. 모차르트의 <프러시아 4중주>에 관한 음악학자들의 비평에는 무엇보다 모차르트의 <하이든 4중주>와 비교하거나 생애 말기의 상황과 연관지어 그 위상을 부정적으로 평가하는 양상을 읽어볼 수 있었다. 이처럼 캐논의 위상에 관해 논의될 수 있는 다양한 음악사적, 미학적 요인들에근거하여 본 논문은 서신과 기록을 중심으로 작곡가의 말기 상황, 작곡의 동기, 작곡의 과정과 같은 컨텍스트적인 측면을 작품의 내용과 연결시켜 보았다. 또한<프러시아 4중주>의 내용을 분석함에 있어서는 특히 모차르트의 후기 현악5중주들과 <하이든 4중주>, 하이든의 <프러시아 4중주>와 같은 타작품들과의 상호텍스트적인 분석으로부터 작품간 연관성이나 고유성을 도출해 보았다. 전기적정보와 직접적으로 연관되는 작품의 내용은 유례없는 첼로의 비중과 첼로 서법에서 두드러지는 한편, 현악 4중주 매체에 대한 작곡가 태도, 대위법의 중요성과 다양성, 스케르초 서법을 통해서는 <프러시아 4중주>가 비슷한 시기에 작곡된 실내악곡들을 연결하는 위상을 지니고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
This thesis considers aspects of canon formation, focusing on Mozart’s Prussian Quartets (K.575, 589, 590) which have long been regarded as a minor miscellany, compared with the previous quartets dedicated to Haydn or related to financial distress of the composer’s last years. Based on such historical or aesthetical aspects linked with the status of canon, this thesis examines biography and compositional motivation and process surrounding Mozart’s Prussian Quartets, and furthermore attempted to connect contextual understanding to the text. Intertextual analysis through Mozart’s Haydn quartets and late string quintets, and Haydn’s Prussian Quartets is intended to illuminate correlation and uniqueness of Mozart’s Prussian Quartets, for instance, unprecedented cello writing, significance of counterpoint, and scherzo writing.
