Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of topography on the location of main and annex buildings in the ministry of Buseoksa Temple. Buseoksa Temple is located in the upper part of a valley bottom between two ridges, at elevations ranging from 370 to 658m. Most annex buildings are concentrated between 400 and 500m, and the hierarchy is related to the elevation. At an inclination of 0-53°, the buildings are mainly located on gentle to moderately inclined slopes. The area of the slope wider than the flat surface is the main location factor, and the slope direction is concentrated toward south and south-west due to the influence of Bonghwangsan Mountain and the circumferential ridge in the northeast. In the process of expanding the ministry for 36 years (1988-2024), landscape modifications and functional zoning were carried out by securing a flat surface through cuttings and sacred soil, but it was confirmed that the location and hierarchy were related to the topographic conditions.
