Abstract

Abstract:This paper researches on the traditional symbol & knowledge system of the water landscape(수경관) and it’s historical transformation in Korea. It could be summarized four sides, as follows. 1) The original thought of the water landscape in traditional Korea was the nature belief(自然神仰) that had come from shamanism(巫敎) worshipping the river. 2) As China’s cultural impact getting stronger, the symbol & knowledge system of the water landscape had been more various in contents, deeper in meaning. 3) Korean used mixing the elements of the symbol & knowledge system accepted from China in accord with the environmental condition and the socio-cultural code. 4) The symbol & knowledge system of the water landscape was changed historically in correspondence with the environmental value and importance of water resources. It can be estimated that the traditional symbol & knowledge system of the water landscape contributed to the conservation, use, management of water resources in Korea.
