본 논문은 한문학 연구에서 적용 가능한 디지털 인문학의 방법론을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 특히 사회네트워크 분석(social network analysis) 방법론을 중심으로 사회과학적 방법론이 인문학 연구에 활용되었을 때 어떠한 효용과 한계점이 있는지를 분석한다. 일차적으로 현재 인문학계에서 진행되고 있는 디지털 인문학 관련 논쟁을 살펴보고, 매체의 역사의 맥락에서 인문학의 생산 도구와 연구 환경의 변화를 고찰한다. 특히 구조주의의 새로운 이해로써 네트워크 이론이 사회와 인간, 그리고 텍스트와의 관계를 바라보는 새로운 시각에 대하여 논한다. 네트워크 분석을 활용한 선행연구로 하버드대학의 중국역대인물 데이터베이스(CBDB), 학술지 중국 역사학(Journal of Chinese History), 종교학(Religions), 數字人文(Digital Humanities)에서 각각 발행한 네트워크 분석 특집호를 소개하고 이를 통해 동양학 연구에서 사회네트워크 분석이 어떻게 활용되었는지를 고찰한다. 나아가 한국한문학 관련 연구사례를 소개하면서 특히 “매개중심성(betweenness centrality)”와 “상호텍스트성(intertextuality)”의 개념이 어떻게 작가, 텍스트, 독자와의 관계를 살피는 데에 활용될 수 있는지를 검토하였다.
Abstract
This paper aims to examine digital humanities methodologies applicable to the study of Korean literature in classical Chinese. It analyzes the benefits and limitations of applying social science methodologies, particularly social network analysis, to humanities research. The paper first examines current debates on digital humanities in academia and explores changes in humanities research tools and environments in the context of media history. It discusses network theory as a new understanding of structuralism, offering a fresh perspective on relationships between society, humans, and texts. As precedent research using network analysis, it introduces Harvard University's China Biographical Database(CBDB) and special issues on network analysis from the Journal of Chinese History, Religions, and Digital Humanities, examining how social network analysis has been applied in East Asian studies. Furthermore, it introduces orean literature in classical Chinese research cases, specifically exploring how concepts of “betweenness centrality” and “intertextuality” can be utilized to examine relationships between authors, texts, and readers.
