현대시의 거울 이미지에 나타난 소외와 분열 극복 양상 - 반사상의 거울과 신체화된 거울을 중심으로

본고는 현대시의 거울 이미지의 특징을 각각 반사상과 신체화된 거울 이미지로 보았으며, 이를 통해 현대인이 겪는 소외와 분열 양상을 살펴보고 그 극복 과정을 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 1930년대부터 2000년대에 이르기까지 그 범위를 확대하여 한국 현대시 전반에 걸쳐 폭넓게 나타난 거울 이미지를 논의 대상으로 삼았다. 1930년대 이상과 윤동주로부터 1970년대 박용래와 서정주의 시편에 등장하는 반사상의 거울 이미지는 인공적인 것, 자연적인 것, 혹은 추억과 생활적인 것을 아우르고 있다. 이것은 우리가 잃어버린 정신의 총체성을 회복하기 위한 여정이며, 거울에 비친 자아의 분신을 통해 자아의 소외를 탐구하고 인간 존재의 전체상에 가닿기 위한 과정으로 파악된다. 반면 황지우, 김혜순, 이선영, 김선우 등의 2000년대 시에 등장하는 거울 이미지들은 파편화된 양태를 띄며, 이로 인해 발생되는 소외와 분열을 극복하기 위한 방편으로 신체화된 거울 이미지가 나타남을 살펴보았다. 2000년대 시에 나타나는 거울 이미지는 신체에 새겨진 상처와 결부된다. 그 결과 거울 이미지에 드러나는 신체의 ‘아픔’은 부정적인 것이 아니라 그 ‘아픔’ 혹은 ‘상처’가 있기에 치유도 가능한 것임을 알아보았다. 그러나 ‘거울 이미지’라는 현대시의 주요 화소를 문학사 전반의 특징에 적용하고자 한 이러한 본고의 방법론은 필연적으로 분석 대상을 자의적으로 한정할 수밖에 없는 선험적 한계를 지닌다. 그러한 자의적인 한계를 극복하기 위한 방편으로 시인들의 전반적인 작품 세계보다는 거울 시의 특징을 드러내는 개별 시편에 주목하여 현대시의 거울 이미지의 특징을 밝히고자 하였다.
Abstract
This paper viewed the characteristics of the image of mirror in modern poetry as reflection of mirror and physical images of mirror. Through this, it reviewed the isolation and division that modern people experience and tried to analyze the process to overcome it. To this end, this study expanded the scope of study from the 1930s to 2000s and discussed the images of mirror that are shown in overall modern poetry. The images of mirror as a reflection that appear in the poems of Yi Sang and Yoon Dongjoo in the 1930s and Park Yongrae and Seo Jeongjoo in the 1970s include something artificial, natural, and something related to memory and daily life. This is a journey to recover the totality of our lost spirit and the process to explore the isolation of ego through the alter ego reflected in the mirror and to reach the whole image of human existence. On the other hand, the images of mirror that appear in the poems of Hwang Jiwoo, Kim Hyesoon, Lee Sunyoung, and Kim Sunwoo in the 2000s have the aspect of fragmentation, and this study reviewed how the physical image of mirror was used as a way to overcome isolation and division stemming from the fragmentation. The images of mirror shown in poems of the 2000s are related to scars on body. As a result, the ‘pain’ revealed in the image of mirror was not something negative. Rather, it could be thought that as there are ‘pain’ and ‘scar’, there is also treatment. However, the methodology of this paper to apply the major factor of modern poetry, ‘the image of mirror’ to the characteristics of overall modern literary history inevitably had a priori limitations that restricted the objects of analysis arbitrarily. As a way to overcome such arbitrary limitations, this study tried to focus on individual poems that reveal the characteristics of poetry of mirror than on the overall works of poets and find out the characteristics of the image of mirror in modern poetry.
