초록

This paper aims to explore the properties of Korean gappingconstructions and to provide an appropriate analysis for them. On thebasis of Munn's (1993) adjunction structure and Citko's (2005) parallelmerge, we propose a multidominant structure for Korean gappingconstructions. One of the consequences obtained from this hypothesis isthat the verbal gap, which appears in the first conjunct, does not rely onthe across-the-board verb movement (cf.. Johnson (2004, 2009a), López &Winkler (2003), Agbayani & Zoerner (2004)) but rather on theasymmetric spell-out in the multidominant structure (cf., Wilder (1999,2008)). Concretely, under our multidominance analysis, we account forthe agreement phenomena of Korean honorific morpheme ‘-si' by meansof "closeness" between probe and matching goals. And we analyze theextraction phenomena of left branch elements as the result of theasymmetric spell-out that is realized only in one conjunct. We alsopropose an incorporation analysis to account for the ommissionphenomena of postposition and Case marker in Korean gappingconstruction.

Abstract
