향가에 나타난 정치의 이념과 현실 - <도솔가>, <안민가>, <원가>를 대상으로

본고는 향가 중에 정치적 주제를 담고 있는 작품들을 묶어서 고찰하였다. 중세의 정치가 국왕-신하-백성의 관계 속에서 이루어졌다는 점, 작품에 나타난 정치 이념은 신라의 역사적 소산이라는 점을 바탕으로 논하였다.삼국유사의 기사를 준신하는 한, <도솔가>는 경덕왕 19년 전후의 정치적 사건을 배경으로 지어졌다. 부모와 자식에 대한 지극한 정성을 보여준 경덕왕의 마음이 ‘곧은 마음’으로 표현되었다. 천재지변에 대처하면서 백성의 안돈과 후계자의 확립이라는 정치적 목적이 미륵의 가호 아래 성취되기를 기원한 내용이다.<안민가>에는 중세적 가족주의에 기초한 애민사상이 잘 드러나 있다. 이는 신라의 역사적 경험에서 우러나온 정치 이념으로서, 가령 삼국 통일의 위업을 이룩한 무열왕문무왕대 상하 계층의 화합의 모습 같은 것이 이념화된 것이다. 그와 같은 이념 제시의 이면에는 경덕왕 당대의 정치 현실에 대한 작가의 비판의식이 놓여 있다.신충을 김충신(金忠信, 金忠臣)과 동일인으로 본 역사학계의 견해를 받아들여 간략하나마 작가론을 펼쳤다. 신충은 당나라에서 8년간 숙위하였고, 귀국 후 효성왕 즉위를 둘러싼 세력 다툼 속에 일시적으로 소외당하였다. 이 때 지어진 <원가>에는 왕족으로서의 유대의식을 바탕으로 임금에 대한 충성심과 보필의 의지가 피력되었다. 신충은 향가 창작뿐 아니라 당나라 사신의 접대를 위해 재등용된 듯하다.향가의 정치적 주제에 대한 연구는 향가 장르가 지닌 역사적 성격을 드러내고 오늘날에도 현실감 있는 문학으로 수용되는 데 중요한 의의가 있다.
Abstract
There are some pieces of Hyang-Ga which reflect the political realities and express the political ideas of Shilla dynasty. This paper is a study on the political themes of Hyang-Ga. These themes have been formed on the relationship among the king, ministers, and people. And they have arisen from the historical experiences of Shilla dynasty. Dosol-Ga is a song which was sung by Weolmyung-Sa in the rite for the king Gyungdeok to protect his people and to maintain his nation. The poet expressed the king's will as 'straight mind', and intended to make an ideology by combining it with religious belief in Mireuk Buddha. Anmin-Ga has the political idea of the poet Chungdam-Sa whom the generous king Gyungdeok listened to. The idea, which has been formed in the history of Shilla dynasty, is to love people. It was expressed by the poet's clear historical consciousness as the point of political ideas which were required at that time. Won-Ga was composed by Shinchung, when he was excluded by the king Hyosung. His being excluded may be caused by his political status between two political parties. After composition of a poet and reception for chinese diplomatic corps, he was appointed for the prime minister. The faithfulness, loyalty, and assistant to the master were expressed in the poem. It is necessary to study the themes of Hyang-Ga by the realistic and historical sight. With that way, Hyang-Ga genre may reveal its realistic and historical features which could evoke the sympathy of present readers.
