Abstract

This study discussed the literature written in Chinese characters in the late of Chosun Dynasty from a methodological viewpoint to ‘East Asia’. In order to give shape to the theme, “the cultural space” was set up as an important concept in this paper. In particular, this paper focused on the academic knowledge and culture created by the intellectuals in the cultural space in East Asia and found the issue in the literature written in Chinese Characters from a domestic and international viewpoint. This paper held up as the particular case to the middle class people’s eyes and roles related to the knowledge and information of “Chosun Chunghwa(Minor SinoCentrism)”. When examined the literary works written in Chinese Characters in the late Chosun Dynasty from the perspective of East Asia, the different meanings could be found when read them from the perspective of Chosun. This paper tried to make the point clear as two cases related to the middle class people’s roles in “Chosun Chunghwa(Minor SinoCentrism)” and “the cultural space”. By means of finding these cases continuously, a new direction to study the literature written in Chinese Characters will be suggested. It is certain that the accumulation of the cases and the propose various cases will draw us a new direction to study the literature written in Chinese Characters, which is based on East Asian’s viewpoint.
