瀟湘八景의 轉變과 서울의 八景詩

Abstract

Formed on the basis of Eight Views of Hsiao and Hsiang (C. xiaoxiang bajing 瀟湘八景), Eight Views (K. palgyŏng 八景) became a classical subject of the Chosŏn literary sphere. A representative example is Poetry of Eight Views (K. palgyŏng si 八景詩), which captures the city Seoul with its eight scenic views. The Eight Views poetry of the Chosŏn dynasty captures Hanyang City from a public perspective, showing various changes from time to time. This has a different meaning comparing with the creation of Eight Views Poetry by a gentry as an individual based on a poetry perspective. In a poem of Chŏng Dojŏn discovered Seoul politically for the sake of its founding, and after the Japanese Invasion of Korea 1592, Yim Insŏng and Yi Shik re-recognized the space in Seoul, paying attention to the restoration and reconstruction of the capital city. In addition, King Chŏngjo wrote a poem, titled “Commemorating Eight Scenic Spots in the Country (K. kukto p'aryŏng 國都八詠)," to capture the city’s space as a place of entertainment and beauty in the 18th century, reflecting the city’s booming. As such, the Poetry of Eight Views in Seoul sought a new meaning from time to time by exploring Eight Views through a new poetic style and a new artistic mood.
