영어의 모음발음에 대한 비교연구

Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to compare the phonetic length and quality of English vowels which are produced by English native speakers and Korean speakers. The phonetic duration and F1/F2 structure of English vowels are measured by a speech analysis program. The first experiment is launched to measure the durational differences of tense and lax vowels. Further, I have measured contextually induced variation of vowel lengths. The second experiment is done to measure the qualitative differences of several English momophthongs. An experimental and statistic analysis shows that Koreans speakers run into problems with differentiating these vowels both in vowel duration and vowel quality. The differences of formant structures and durations of these vowels are obvious among English speakers whereas Korean speakers do not show such a distinctive difference, though there are some indications that they intend to distinguish them.
