On the Syntactic category adjective in Korean

Abstract
This paper examines some of the diagnostic tests often employed in the literature to justify the syntactic category A in Korean, and casts some doubts on the validity of their uses. Even though these tests are useful in dividing predicates into two classes, they do not really tell us whether the division they make really corresponds to the categorial difference necessary for postulating A. We also show that the derivational morphology of predicates adds credence to the view that Korean does not categorially distinguish the two classes of words picked out by the diagnostic tests, but that they belong to the same group, perhaps V, with different semantic features [state].
