Abstract
Recently collocation databases have been widely built with increasingawareness that collocations are important not only for theoretical linguistics but also for applied linguistic studies like language teaching, translation and lexicography. Our multilingual database of Korean collocations is also one of those databases. Its main purpose is to help computer-assisted information retrieval for the contrastive studies of collocations and to provide the basis for collocation teaching, machine translation, and dictionary-making. In this paper we show how we have designed our database architecture and prepared its information tag sets, introducing the methodology we employed to prepare those tag sets. In particular, with reference to the methodology, we suggest that the establishment of research questions and the evaluation of sample writings are important in designing our multilingual database in that they help us decide what tag sets would be substantial to our later contrastive studies.
