Abstract
In this paper, we present a Loanwords database built for the efficient automatic analysis of various transliteration forms. Loanwords we observe frequently in actual korean texts can be transliterated under more than two different graphic forms, and therefore they raise serious problems in automatic analysis systems. We obtained about 6,750 loanwords (phonetic transliteration forms) and divided them into 3 classes: <NES> class that contains common nouns such as 'television', 'carpet', 'chocolate'; <NEC>, class of complex nouns such as 'goalkeeper', 'multi-media', 'computer virus', 'lemon juice'; <NER> composed of proper nouns (simple and complex forms) such as 'Leonardo Da Vinci', 'New York', 'Microsoft', 'LG', 'Santafe'. From our database, we observe 1,520 common nouns which, allowing graphic variations, should be treated in a special way. We can describe all these variations by using directed graphs equivalent to finite-state automata and transducers. These finite graphs called Local Grammar graphs can easily be implemented and applied to automatic analysis thanks to UNITEX FSTGraphEditor program.
