Abstract
This paper aims to examine argument alternation and event structure of Homomorphic Causative/Passive Verbs in Korean and to represent their lexico-semantic structures. As for argument alternation, some causative verbs such as ‘caphi-’ (to make ... catch) take the reflexive theme argument which belongs to their causer argument and produce the ambiguous sentences having both causative meaning and passive meaning. Other causative verbs such as ‘anki-’ (to make ... hold) also occur in the ambiguous sentences like ‘caphi-’ sentence. But in the case of ‘anki-,’ its ‘-eykey’ (to) argument has two theta roles, causee or goal and the ‘anki-’ sentence has another ambiguity. On the other hand, in the case of event structure, all of Homomorphic Causative/Passive Verbs have the complex event structure related to the causative relation. Based on these phenomena about Homomorphic Causative/Passive Verbs, I suggest lexico-semantic structures for them, which show the existing continuity and the close relationship between causative and passive.
