This study aims to elaborate the MIND-AS-BODY metaphor into several sub-metaphors, identifying the source domains of BODY as PERCEIVING, EATING/DIGESTING/COOKING, GRASPING, JOURNEY/MOVING, CUTTING/SHIFTING, WEIGHING, PLACING, BUILDING, CASTING, and the like. The metonymy INSTRUMENT FOR THE ACTION is another cognitive motivation to understand MIND in terms of BODY. To confirm the BODY-onto-MIND mapping on the diachronic dimension as well as the synchronic one, we look into the etymon of a word or a morpheme, and explain how words or morphemes come to mean the current abstract mental senses, based on the above-mentioned various bodily experiences.
