Abstract

This is the study in the syntactic change through the process of disappearance of one morpheme. It researches the change of syntactic structure resulting from the disappearance of `-o-`, focussed on the change of syntactic function. `-O-` shows nominality as its syntactic function in Middle Korean and the disappearance of `-o-` can be explained by the change of this function. The research into the syntactic structure, NP>ADVP, changed by the disappearance of `-o-` explains that the motivation and the process of the disappearance of `-o-` is related to the syntactic function of `-o-`. The process of disappearance is also progressed according to the degree of nominality : `-o-` is getting disappeared from the construcyion whose nominality is weak to the strong one gradually. This study concludes that the syntactic function of `-o-` is to construct Noun Phrase, and the disappearance of `-o-` is caused by the weakened nominality.
