Abstract
Like other aesthetic forms of therapies, dramatherapy also applies aesthetic Medium to the therapy. In other words, it integrates the aesthetic and creative essence of drama with the psychotherapeutic purpose. Dramatherapy uses various elements - theatre, playing with dolls, movements, mime, sound, stories, masks etc. - to construct the imaginative worlds. It is generally said that the dramatic reality is fictional and thus not real. But unlike those general thoughts, it allows the participant some safer and motivating frameworks that help him to reflect on his personal stories, to discover his supressed feelings, to rid himself of obessesions and eventually to set up a new object in his life. The aim of this article is to clarify the characteristics of dramatherapy from the viewpoint of phenomenology. Creativity encouraged by dramatherapy provides an important clue to prove the phenomenological potential of dramatherapy. Dramatherapy uses the mediated method based on metapher and symbol much more than any other therapies like the psychoanalysis or the pyschodrama. Through this method, the creativity and self-motivation of the participant can be strengthened. The final aim of dramatherapy is not to give him a therapeutic solution but to lead him to discover it by himself. Dramatherapy knows the power that makes the particiapant overcome his stress. That ist why dramatherapy puts a premium on expanding and diversifying his experiences. Because of this view, dramatherapy is closely connected to phenomenology. Phenomenology also believes that the reality is not fixed but is discovered by the subject each time. It says that the dichotomy between the subject and object is no more valid to explain the realtiy. As long as we regard the subject as being separated from the object, we can never find another new possibilies that might make us overcome the fixed thoughts toward the world. This is the main subject of 'Phenomenological perceptive experience' or 'perceiving with the boy'. The phenomenolgical dialog-modell, established by Bernhard Waldenfels, makes us reflect on the role of the dramatherapist. His dialog-modell is based on the schema of suggest-response instead of the schema of question-answer. The new modell of Waldenfels gives the participant some various possibilities to reflect on himself. The communication between therapist and participant should be based on this phenomenological dialog-modell. The dramatherapist should not ask a 'right' answer from the client. He/She only 'suggest' him to reflect on himself before he answers on it. The man who plays a centre role is not the dramatherapist but the participant. He ist not a passive patient any more. He is the active agent who leads the whole dramatherapeutic process and find the key to heal by himself. The final aim of dramatherapy is to expand the experience of the participant and to help him to reflect on himself.
