본고는 김연실의 삶과 연기 그리고 연극사적 위상을 밝히는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 김연실에 대한 자료와 기록은 그것을 기록하는 개인 취향에 따라 주로 기술되었기 때문에, 지금까지의 기록은 전적으로 신뢰하기 어렵다고 보아야 한다. 그리고 이러한 문제점은 그녀에 대한 잘못된 해석을 초래하여 연극사 기술의 왜곡을 초래할 수 있다. 이에, 본고는 객관적이고 역사적인 자료를 기반으로 김연실의 일생을 복원하고 그녀의 연극적 이력과 연극 활동을 통해 신뢰할 수 있는 기록을 재구성하고자 한다. 김연실이 한국 연극사에서 여배우로서 담당해야 했을 몫을 감안하면, 이러한 연구를 통해 초창기 여배우들이 연극계와 영화계에서 직면했던 어려움을 발견할 수 있을 것이다. 본고는 김연실의 연극 작품과 영화 작품 그리고 연극․영화 단체를 검토하고자 한다. 김연실이 참여했던 연극․영화 단체들은 매우 다양하다. 나운규 프로덕션, 경성촬영소, 토월회, 태양극장, 연극시장, 동양극장, 고협 등이 그러한 예에 속한다. 더구나 김연실은 1910년에 태어나 주로 1942년까지 활동했다. 이 기간은 한국 역사에서 식민지 시대에 속한다. 따라서 본 연구는 김연실의 연극영화계 활동을 정리하여, 이 시기의 특별한 면모를 탐구하는데 일조할 것이다. 이 연구는 결론적으로 한국 연극 영화사에서 김연실의 활동과 주요 작품의 의미와 가치를 검토할 것이다.
Abstract
This paper aims at re-illuminating the life and performance of Kimnyeonsil, and her status in theatrical performance history. Recordings and data about her are usually written according to writers' private tastes. Consequently it can be said that reliable documents do not exist. This problem led to the distortion of drama history, causing biased interpretations about the actress. Thereupon, this work is to restore Kimnyeonsil's life on a basis of objective historical materials, and to reconstruct the trustworthy data about properties of his performance and her theatrical career. Examining the position of Kimnyeonsil pioneering the role of an actress in the history of theater, I have found the trouble early actress must have been faced with and problems in the theatrical and cinematical world. This paper reviews the Kimnyeonsil's play, film works, music records, theatrical/film companies. Kimnyeonsil's theatrical/film companies were very diverse. Kimnyeonsil was active in theatrical/film companies, for example ‘Naungyu film production company’, ‘Kyeongseong film production company’, ‘Towoalhoi Theater’, ‘Taeyang Theater’, ‘Yeogeukshijang’, ‘Dongyaung Theater’, and ‘Go Hyub Theater’. Kimnyeonsil was born in 1910 and mainly worked Until 1942. In Korea history, This period is a part of the colonial period. This paper arranges the history of Kimnyeonsil's plays and film works, finds out the special feature of it. In conclusion, this paper checks the meaning and significance of Kimnyeonsil's activities and works in Korean play and film history.
