Abstract
This study examined how consonant endings with plural underlying forms are realized in the Gyeonggi dialect. In previous studies, it has been reported that conjugations such as ‘논:다(놓-)’ coexist with ‘논는다’. However, it is difficult to know how naturally the new conjugations are accepted, which one is preferred between the existing conjugations and the new conjugations, and whether there are differences in the speakers’ acceptance depending on the stem or ending. An experiment was conducted to determine the naturalness of the conjugations combining ‘-ㄴ/는다’ and ‘-ㅂ/습니다’. Although existing conjugations such as ‘논는다’ and ‘굽씀니다’ were preferred, new conjugations such as ‘논:다’ and ‘구움니다’ were also naturally accepted by the speakers. It was also confirmed that some conjugations were more naturally accepted in embedded clauses than in main clauses. The emergence of these new conjugations can be seen as the result of the emergence of new stem forms due to reanalysis and changes in the selection conditions for the stem underlying form of the plural underlying form ending rather than new endings.
