초록

천식은 기도과민성, 기도 염증 및 기도 개형을 특징으로 하는 만성 기도 질환이다. 이러한 특징들은 기관지 수축, 기도 부종, 기도벽비후 및 점액 생성 등의 복합적인 병태생리를 통해 결국 기류 폐쇄(airflow obstruction)를 일으키게 된다.1 기도과민성은 건강한 사람에게는 거의 영향을 미치지 않는 자극에 반응하여 기도가 좁아지는, 즉 기관지 수축의 발생으로 정의되는 특징이며, 기도과민성의존재는 천식 발병의 위험 요소일 뿐만 아니라, 천식 환자에게는 천명과 호흡곤란과 같은 반복적인 증상의 원인이 된다
