Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of students' centrality of their social network on their academic achievement and attitude toward online cooperative learning. For this purpose, a perception test on their social(advice) network and a set of survey items about online cooperative learning were provided for 70 college students in the city of Seoul. In addition,a social network analysis(SNA) was implemented to obtain the diverse centrality indices(outdegree-, indegree-, betweenness-, closeness-, prestige-, and Bonacich's centrality)of their advice network. The results of this study indicated that the correlation between the students' prestige centrality and their academic achievement was significant. The results also indicated that the correlation between the students' closeness centrality and their attitude toward online cooperative learning was significant. The overall results suggest that in order to increase student academic achievement and facilitate their positive attitude toward online cooperative learning, instructors are recommended to offer them appropriate instructional strategies by considering their positions in the social(advice) network.
